After four years of suspension, Andrea Iannone is less than a month away from returning to competition, with the start of the Superbike World Championship season. This week he was at the Portimão tests, in another phase of preparation for 2024 that left him satisfied… maintaining ambitious goals.
The Go Eleven Italian rider told the championship’s official website that he liked what he saw on the Algarve track, although he admits he can do even better: ‘Overall, I don’t feel too bad. With race tires, we’re more or less there. We’re fast. It’s possible to improve a bit, and we have to do it, with the race pace, but the difficulty for me is the track. I’ve never ridden this track with a competition bike and it was very difficult because I didn’t have a reference. All areas are completely new‘.
Either way, Iannone gained more work experience with the team and rhythm on the bike. And, anticipating his first season in WSBK, he stated: ‘It’s a good start. We don’t know what to expect, but it’s important that we work well. I don’t want to have high expectations because we will have really difficult moments, but also the possibility of having truly good moments. I believe the goal is high because we are here to achieve good results. Now it’s just the beginning and we need time to reach the top. In any case, we start with all our strength‘.
