Throughout his MotoGP career, Andrea Dovizioso faced several heavyweight rivals, including Marc Márquez with whom he fought for the title, always finishing as runner-up between 2017 and 2019. However, when asked to point out the biggest rivals he encountered, he highlighted another Spaniard – Jorge Lorenzo.
In an interview with PecinoGP, the Italian stated: ‘Jorge was one of the strongest I competed against, but there are more: Valentino [Rossi], [Dani] Pedrosa, [Casey] Stoner, Márquez… fighting against them was exhausting, always very complicated because they were quite strong, each with different characteristics, but with a determination that made them very difficult to beat’.
About Lorenzo in particular, Dovizioso said: ‘Jorge was one of them, always competitive, when he was convinced and in shape he was unbeatable, just like the others at that time were unbeatable, so there has always been so much rivalry. There was not a great relationship with him because of his personality, I always respected him for his talent and determination’.
