In the sixth race, Álvaro Bautista achieved his first victory of the Superbike World Championship season. After Toprak Razgatlioglu was the strongest in the first race and in the Superpole race in Barcelona, the two-time world champion came out on top in the second Catalan race.
The pole position belonged to Razgatlioglu, but the ROKiT BMW rider did not have a good start and lost some positions. Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati) was leading at the end of the first lap. His teammate Nicolò Bulega was also in the fight and even managed to lead, thanks to a pass completed on the fifth lap.
However, using his experience, Bautista did not miss the chance to win. He overtook Bulega on the tenth lap and, although the Italian managed to stay close at first, the two-time champion made the difference from the 15th lap onwards. In the end, Bautista crossed the finish line 2.041s ahead of Bulega. Razgatlioglu lost contact with the Ducatis, despite consistently holding the third position he finished in.
In a strong combined result for ROKiT BMW, Michael van der Mark finished fourth, while Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team/Ducati) finished fifth as the top independent rider. A status that belonged to Andrea Iannone (Team GoEleven/Ducati) for much of the race. However, the Italian crashed while in fourth place on lap 13 and retired.
