Álvaro Bautista was in the fight for victory in the second race of the World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island until the end. Alex Lowes (Kawasaki) ended up taking the lead, relegating the two-time world champion to second place.
The decisive overtaking took place at turn nine, with the British rider adopting an outside line. A maneuver that surprised Bautista due to the location where it was done, as the Spanish rider explained to the championship’s website:
– I expected them to be able to overtake me easily. In that turn, on the outside… no! I expected it in easier places. I tried to be close in the last turn, but I had a lot of problems in the left turns. I couldn’t carry the speed in the middle of the turn, so it was very difficult.
