Aruba.it Racing – Ducati’s Alvaro Bautista took a second place in Race 2 at Assen, but remained realistic about his performance and the circumstances that favoured him. The Spaniard acknowledged that he benefited from other people’s problems to improve his final position.
‘In the SuperPole race it was difficult with the conditions and, especially after Saturday’s crash, it was important to finish the races. I understood the situation on Sunday morning and was quite pleased that the feeling was not bad. I was able to fight for a podium,’ Bautista explained, referring to his cautious approach after Saturday’s incident.
Regarding Race 2, the Ducati rider was honest: ‘In Race 2, being realistic, I could have finished third without Nicolò’s problem. The feeling wasn’t really good. I don’t know if it was the track conditions or the wind or what, but it felt more difficult.’
Bautista ended on a positive note: ‘We have to maintain that feeling that in a normal situation, we are fast and we are closing the gap.’
