Ready for this second round of the MotoGP World Championship, Álex Márquez warns that each GP has many ‘traps’ that require the rider to be super focused. Despite being at one of his favorite tracks, there is no pressure, with confidence being a reality.
Here is the rider’s preview of the upcoming competition weekend, now in Portugal:
– I’m doing well, we managed to overcome Qatar which, as I have already said, was a slightly tricky Grand Prix where it is easy to make mistakes and start off poorly. Then, I think we had a good first day. After that, I think we had a good first weekend, overall, at a circuit where I have never had great results like in Qatar. And we arrive in Portimão, where I have had good results before, one of my favorite circuits, but I won’t be obsessed with ‘we have to do this’. But in practice, we see where we stand, what we need to improve on, and what we don’t have, and from there we can see what our options are on Sunday and on Saturday in the Sprint.
About his second season with the team, A. Márquez feels confident: ‘I think we have a very good base. Above all, we did an excellent job in the preseason; We made little noise, which is how I like it, but we worked hard and tried many things. So, I think we have things very clear. A second year with the same team gives us much more tranquility. I feel confident and doing what I love on the bike’.
And he added: ‘We had an excellent preseason, but there are always things that come up in the races where we need to improve, or on a track where we have more difficulties with the setup. In the races, we think we have everything under control and something always fails, so we have to always pay attention to the details. When you have a lot of confidence, you can also control that. I always say that MotoGP weekends are full of traps; and we always have to be alert because overconfidence or something that escapes us can make us make a mistake’.
