Despite recent results, the Spaniard continues to be one of the references in the field, and Alex Barros still sees him as one of the MotoGP legends, stating to Motorbike Magazine:

Every ten or fifteen years, a star like that is born. Valentino [Rossi] was one of them, Marc is one of them, Pedro Acosta is one of them.
