Alessandro Zaccone secured the first pole position of the MotoE World Championship season this Friday at the French GP. It is also the first pole position for Aruba Cloud MotoE.

Q1 determined the last two riders to qualify for the decisive phase of qualifying, joining the eight who advanced directly from practice. Matteo Ferrari (Felo Gresini) led almost from start to finish and came out on top, with Andrea Mantovani (Klint Forward) in second, 0.140s behind.

Nicholas Spinelli (Rivacold Snipers) missed out by finishing third, 0.129s off the rider ahead. The session ended under a red flag, caused by a crash involving Luca Bernardini (Aruba Cloud MotoE).

With the ten participants set, Q2 began. After the first flying laps, Óscar Gutiérrez (MSI Racing Team) held the lead, before being overtaken by Eric Granado (LCR E-Team). The Brazilian didn’t hold the top spot for long.

Less than ten seconds later, Zaccone (Aruba Cloud MotoE) set a new MotoE lap record at Le Mans: 1m39.545s. No one was able to beat it, securing him pole position. Granado was second, just nine thousandths behind.

The front row will be completed by Gutiérrez. Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team) dominated the practice sessions, but a crash in qualifying prevented him from setting a flying lap, and he will start from tenth.
