One of the most intense moments of the Portuguese GP happened yesterday in the long race when Maverick Viñales, very close to the end of the long race, crashed when he was in second place and had everything to finish a weekend at a high level, with two podiums. Aleix Espargaró lamented what happened and considered the situation ‘absurd’.
The Aprilia rider commented on his teammate’s crash: ‘Quite absurd, a stupid thing, but it’s bad because Maverick deserved it, he was at a very high level’.
#41 believes that his teammate was probably having his best performance with the RS-GP, which brought him some sorrow to see his teammate fall in an inglorious way: ‘The race Jorge proposed with a very high pace and Maverick was probably doing the best race he has ever done with Aprilia. And I feel bad for him and for Aprilia because, one lap from the end, he couldn’t finish’.
Viñales won the Sprint race and then achieved his first victory at the helm of Aprilia, and when it seemed certain that he would secure another podium, he crashed, with the reason for the fall being related to gearbox problems, something that had been bothering him since the sixth lap.
