About a week ago, Aleix Espargaró announced that he will end his MotoGP career at the end of this season. Although he has not announced any plans for the future yet, he has admitted that he may become a test rider and not necessarily with Aprilia. Now, he is being linked to Honda.
The Japanese manufacturer currently has Stefan Bradl as its main test rider. However, the German last competed full-time in 2020 and has only known the RC213V since 2016. Interestingly, before joining Honda, he was also with Aprilia. Espargaró could join next year, with the potential possibility of making sporadic appearances as a wildcard.
During the broadcast of the first free practice of the Italian GP, MotoGP’s official website commentator, Matt Birt, spoke about potential negotiations for Espargaró to become a Honda test rider in 2025:
– We believe that there are some negotiations going on with Honda for next season. It doesn’t involve a full-time position, but we are hearing a lot of rumors about Aleix Espargaró – who announced his retirement in Barcelona last weekend – seems ready for a new challenge, some new motivation. […]. The name of Aleix Espargaró is being strongly linked to a move to become the official test rider for HRC – which I’m sure may possibly include the wildcard option.
