Aleix Espargaró still doesn’t know what he will do in 2025. The rider is in the final year of his contract with Aprilia in MotoGP and could take several different paths – continue if he has a place in the team, switch to a test rider, or retire completely from competitive motorcycling.
The Spaniard was asked if he has a deadline to decide his future, to which he replied: ‘This is a very good question. I don’t know. Hopefully Aprilia will offer me a new job, but this is not important; the important thing is to understand if I want to stay or not. I haven’t decided yet‘.
For Espargaró, the ideal will be to wait until the Italian GP before making a decision, which will be based on his performance: ‘I want to wait at least until Mugello to see how I am performing and then I will decide. This year I am having fun, but I want to fight in the top five in every race; if not, this will be the last [season]’.
Regarding whether he has an idealized plan for the future, #41 spoke of three possible scenarios: ‘No. I am trying to understand what is the best future for me. I don’t think my future will be competing somewhere other than Aprilia, if I compete full-time. So, if I continue I think I will stay at Aprilia. But maybe I will decide to stop and do some wildcards as a test rider, or maybe I will decide to stop completely. I need to decide, but I haven’t really decided yet. I want to perform. This is my obsession right now. I want to finish on the podium every weekend and then I will decide‘.
