Aleix Espargaro expressed his frustration with the MotoGP Race Direction, pointing out the inconsistencies in their decisions. During today’s debrief, Espargaro reflected on the challenges faced during the race and his dissatisfaction with the current state of race management.
On Race Performance: “We were not competitive today. My riding style struggles with high-speed direction changes, and the bike setup didn’t help. We need significant changes to improve our race performance.”
On Race Direction: “Race Direction needs to be more consistent. We never know what they will decide. One rider gets a penalty for something, and another does the same without any consequences. This inconsistency makes it difficult for us to know what to expect.”
Espargaro emphasized that the lack of clear and consistent penalties from Race Direction affects the confidence and strategy of the riders during races. He called for a more standardized approach to ensure fairness and transparency.
“I already said yesterday in the Safety Commission, I asked Dorna with all the respect in the world, with all the education I have and I am 100% sure that they do the best they can with all the good intentions and I am sure they will succeed. They analyze and reanalyze, but they are not at the level. No, there is no doubt. There are disparate cases, the same actions that are judged in one way or another because Miguel Oliveira is not punished. Why is Pecco sanctioned? Is everything okay with Pecco? It’s not okay. Once it’s their turn. Today they call the race direction Jorge Martín, if it were the same incident and nothing happened in Portugal with Marc and Pecco. I don’t know how they will act. We never know what to expect. My opinion is that they do everything right as they know, but it’s not enough.”
Future Improvements: Espargaro believes that with better communication and more predictable decision-making by the Race Direction, riders can focus more on their performance and less on potential penalties. He also mentioned the need for technical adjustments on the bike to better suit his riding style.
Looking to the Future: As the season progresses, Espargaro hopes for improvements in how the Race Direction handles penalties and in the technical adjustments of his team, aiming for better results and a competitive edge in the upcoming races.
