If in the early 2000s the era of motorcycle World Championships had about 15/16 rounds, next year it will have 22 – a record number for a calendar that has been growing steadily.
At the same time, in 2023 the Sprint format was introduced, with each Grand Prix having two races – a short one on Saturday and the main one on Sunday with the traditional distance.
This schedule represents increased fatigue for riders and teams, as well as a higher risk of physical problems and injuries. Therefore, it is not well received by many of those involved.
Aleix Espargaró spoke out against the current MotoGP format, stating to Crash.net: ‘I don’t like the schedule and I don’t like the calendar. That’s how I feel. I understand the position of the organizers and they can have 45 races if they want. But where is the limit?’.
