Honda has been somewhat distant from its main competition in MotoGP in recent years, where European manufacturers have been leading, with Ducati being particularly in the spotlight. Alberto Puig believes that this is part of a ‘very important’ step that these factories have decided to take.
According to the team manager of Repsol Honda, there is no doubt about who is the biggest manufacturer, as he told Marca, quoted in Crash: ‘One thing that is undeniable is that Honda is Honda, it is the largest motorcycle manufacturer, selling over 25 million motorcycles per year. I think the second manufacturer sells six or seven.’
Then, Puig looked at the competition, saying that they have taken a step forward in the evolution of their bikes, but not only that:
– Honda is Honda, point number one. And point number two, in MotoGP, now, we have to acknowledge that European manufacturers have taken a very important step with very aggressive policies in terms of technical development, hiring technicians, pushing the limits of everything possible.
Yamaha, also a Japanese manufacturer, is also facing problems in the category.
