The year 2024 will mark a new era in the world of Honda in MotoGP. Without Marc Márquez, the bet has fallen on Luca Marini. Repsol Honda’s director, Alberto Puig, explained the choice of Valentino Rossi’s younger brother for this chapter at Honda.
‘First, we didn’t have many options, secondly, we analyzed his trajectory, both in Moto2 and MotoGP, and he was a very consistent, quite analytical, young rider and he was the first person who contacted us, him and his team, when they realized Marc was leaving. He was the first to show interest and we were analyzing him, valuing him and it was a decision of Honda to hire him. We will definitely receive good ‘inputs’ from him, because he comes from a winning bike and can give us a lot of information’, explained the official, in an interview with Marca newspaper.
Was Gigi Dall’Igna actually approached to leave Ducati? ‘We explored different options, it wasn’t just that. We haven’t decided yet, we continue to consider different options and we are open to it, not just people, but also technical consultants, with an open mind to help us see where we can get the best ideas’, noted Puig, who reveals that Honda will have to make up for the losses it has accumulated in recent seasons.
‘Honda is not Ducati or Aprilia, Honda is Honda’.
