Ai Ogura set the pace in the only free practice session of the Americas GP in Moto2. The experienced Japanese rider narrowly surpassed the home rider, Joe Roberts.
Dennis Foggia (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex) led after the first timed laps, but was later overtaken by Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex). The Italian regained the lead, only to be surpassed shortly after by Arón Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex). A similar situation occurred shortly after, but this time it was Diogo Moreira who overtook his teammate.
It was then Ogura’s turn (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro) to set the fastest time. The Japanese rider strengthened his position, but was eventually beaten by Canet… who spent the most time in first place, for almost a quarter of an hour, before being overtaken by Alonso López (SpeedUp/Boscoscuro).
The Spanish rider alternated with Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) at the top of the table for a few laps in the final minutes. However, Ogura ultimately set the best time: 2m09.218s. With that, he was 61 thousandths faster than Roberts. López was third, with the top five closed by Celestino Vietti (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex) and Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Kalex). Canet finished seventh, 0.738s behind Ogura.
