Franco Morbidelli began the MotoGP season far from his and Prima Pramac’s potential with the Ducati bike. However, he has been showing clear progress and could have fought for the top five at the Catalan GP, though a mid-race crash prevented that.
When asked about the source of these recent improvements, the Italian replied: ‘More experience on the bike and the team working very well on the setting. We missed a big chunk of time of experience on this new bike and we are trying to recover. We are doing it pretty well and pretty fast. There are some mistakes along the way, but it’s part of the process of recovering from a big gap that we had’.
The pre-season was challenging for Morbidelli, who missed all the tests after getting injured during a training session in January – a situation that he admits makes it difficult to think about the championship:
– For sure these first five/six races where we didn’t manage to finish the race because of some mistakes or starting very badly, for the championship is not good. But after what I had this winter, it’s very difficult to start the season thinking about the championship. Now we just have to have fun and try to make the results we deserve to do, which are very good. So, we will try to put our real potential on Sunday, and we’ll think about the championship in some other time.
