Franco Morbidelli started the MotoGP season far from his own potential, as well as from Pramac Racing and Ducati’s bike. However, he is showing clear progress and at the Catalunya GP he could have even fought for the top five – not achieving it due to a mid-race crash.
Asked about where these recent improvements come from, the Italian replied: ‘More experience on the bike and the team working very well on the setup. We lost a lot of time of experience on this new bike and we are trying to recover. We are doing it very well and very fast. There are some mistakes along the way, but it’s part of the process of recovering from a big disadvantage we had‘.
The preseason was complicated for Morbidelli, who missed all the tests after getting injured in a training session in January – a context that he himself admitted prevents him from thinking about the championship standings:
– It is true that these first five/six races, in which we couldn’t finish the race because of some mistakes or starting very poorly, is not good for the championship. But after what I had this winter, it is very difficult to start the season thinking about the championship. Now we just try to have fun and try to achieve the results we deserve, which are very good. So, we will try to show our real potential on Sunday, and we will think about the championship at some other time.
