After the successes in Dakar, Mário Patrão has been betting on competing with a 100% electric motorcycle.
Mário Patrão has been unstoppable. After, in January of this year, achieving a brilliant victory among the veterans and a fantastic place on the podium of the Original by Motul at the Rally Dakar 2023, the pilot, current holder of the World Cross Country Rallies Champion title among riders over 45 years old, has been continuing the environmental sustainability project that he embraced in 2022.
Mário Patrão, who has the strong support of CRÉDITO AGRÍCOLA, started the national season of 2023 a month after the Rally Dakar, with a very positive participation in the extra Motocross event held in Tarouca, riding the 100% electric motorcycle. And because the environmental sustainability project continues to be a strong commitment of this pilot/sponsors who have in their record more than two dozen titles, motocross competitions in Nelas, Vila Nova de Paiva and São João da Pesqueira followed. Next weekend, the Troféu Estrelas de Seia will take place, an event organized by the pilot together with the Municipality of Seia, with the support of all sponsors. The invitation is open to all who want to participate/watch.
Meeting the goal set for this year, four races already disputed should be joined by four more rounds, until December. Regarding this pioneering initiative launched by the pilot and his sponsors, Mário Patrão highlights: “The involvement in this strong environmental sustainability policy has allowed us to demonstrate that it is possible to compete and contribute positively to a better environment. The goal is to create a championship/trophy without combustion “ride green”. Of course, the power differences are still significant. The motorcycles are not yet sufficiently evolved to compete on equal terms with combustion engine models. They are still a bit behind in terms of competitiveness, also conditioned by autonomy, but our goal is to participate and show that it is possible to combine the fun that this type of race provides and contribute to the show, in a cleaner and more economical way. We have been working on this important asset that can contribute to improving the future in terms of the environment. It is a project with a future that involves evolution and consolidation, hoping that a more powerful and autonomous motorcycle will be launched. It has been very rewarding.”
It is not only in the national territory that the pilot supported by LUSÍADAS SAÚDE has been excelling. Mário Patrão knows well what it means to compete as part of a factory team, but he is also a perfect connoisseur of the demand associated with not being able to count on any type of external assistance to his motorcycle. Participation in this category, in the Morocco Desert Challenge, at the end of April, earned him the victory among the pilots competing in the respective class, called “malle moto”, the victory among the veterans, and the fantastic 5th place in the Overall Classification.
In Portugal, he also achieved victory among drivers over 45 years old, in the 30th Raid “Off-Road Paradise”, the second stage of the National Off-Road Championship.
