Adrián Fernández was the fastest in the first free practice session of the Moto3 French GP, which kicked off the weekend’s action for the category in Le Mans.

Track conditions caused a delay to the start of the session – following an incident in MotoE Free Practice 1 just minutes earlier. When the session did get underway, it was quickly red-flagged due to track conditions caused by technical issues on Vicente Pérez’s (LevelUp-MTA/KTM) bike, which left oil on the asphalt.

Only after the restart were timed laps finally completed, with Ángel Piqueras (Frinsa-MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) leading early on before being beaten by David Muñoz (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP/KTM). David Almansa (Leopard Racing/Honda) also briefly held the top spot, before Piqueras reclaimed it in the final ten minutes.

However, right at the end, Fernández (Leopard Racing/Honda) clocked the session’s fastest time with a 1m40.882s – the only rider to lap in the 1m40s. Ryusei Yamanaka (Frinsa-MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) was second, 0.118s behind, followed by Piqueras at 0.361s. Joel Kelso (LevelUp-MTA/KTM) and Muñoz completed the top five ahead of championship leader José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM), who finished sixth.
