Jorge Martín was one of the highlights at the Jerez GP. The Spanish rider, after winning the Sprint race, couldn’t avoid a mistake and consequently a crash in the Sunday race.
Another standout in the Sprint race was Pedro Acosta, who finished in second place, but like his rival, Jorge Martín, didn’t achieve the best result in the Sunday race, finishing only in 10th position overall.
In statements to DAZN, Jorge Lorenzo commented on the performance of the two Spanish riders, who have been major protagonists in the beginning of the MotoGP season so far.
– ‘If crashes were expected, there wouldn’t be crashes. Martín wasn’t expecting to have an incident in that spot. The fact that everyone went out with the medium tire, which is harder in the middle and causes a bit more front-end locking, didn’t help either. Above all, the pressure he was receiving from Bagnaia and Márquez helped. With a gap of more than a second, maybe he could have avoided the crash, but that pressure made Martín want to push a bit more, wanted to brake later, and had difficulties with the front tire.’
He also added his opinion on the performance of rookie Pedro Acosta: ‘Considering that this circuit was favorable to KTM, in this case to GASGAS, Acosta thought he could fight for the win here, but the truth is that the race showed he wasn’t prepared for it, he didn’t have the speed, he didn’t have the rhythm, and the fall this morning in the warm up was very strong. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries, which caused him to start the race poorly, with a touch with Zarco, but he held on to the bike and finished the race, gaining experience, kilometers, and some points.’
