Another round in the AMA 450SX and another new winner, with a debut: Aaron Plessinger. The rider won for the first time in the category and the triumph achieved in San Diego earned him the lead in the championship.
The main event of the night started with Justin Cooper taking the holeshot, but Ken Roczen quickly took the lead. Chase Sexton and Malcolm Stewart crashed early on and were immediately left far behind.
Justin Barcia moved up to second place, with Plessinger close to the podium positions, along with Cooper Webb, Jason Anderson, and Dylan Ferrandis. They witnessed Cooper’s fall, which left him far behind, resuming the race in 19th place.
On the third lap, Plessinger moved up to second place and immediately started trying to catch Roczen, which happened unexpectedly after the German’s fall on the eighth lap. #94 resumed the race, but his bike was damaged.
Plessinger was in the lead and only had to manage his race until the end to achieve his first-ever victory in the category. Webb reached second place after overtaking Barcia, with the chasing duo being seven seconds behind Plessinger.
The leader would eventually start catching up with riders who were already one lap behind, such as Shane McElrath, Eli Tomac, Adam Cianciarulo, or Jorge Prado, all of them fighting for approximately the top ten positions.
The race would end with Plessinger’s crowning as the winner, for the first time, in the AMA 450SX, with Webb finishing second and Barcia securing third place.
With this victory, Plessinger also secured first place in the championship.
