Portugal was on fire this weekend and also hosted the MXGP World Championship, where Tim Gajser returned to victory in the championship in today’s first race, while Jeffrey Herlings debuted as a winner in the current season. However, Pauls Jonass scored the most points overall, with a double second place.
In the first MXGP race in Águeda, this Sunday, Gajser (Team HRC) had a dominant performance and beat Jonass (Standing Construct Honda) by over 40s. Romain Febvre (Kawasaki Racing Team) took the last spot on the podium.
The top five was completed with the Fantic Factory Racing duo, Glenn Coldenhoff and Brian Bogers respectively.
In the second race, it was Herlings’ turn (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) to dominate the events by beating Jonass again, with the Latvian finishing 23.566s behind the Dutchman. Cornelius Toendel (Schmicker Racing) took the last spot on the podium, while the Kawasaki duo closed the top five this time, with Febre and Jeremy Seewer in fourth and fifth.
It’s also worth noting Jorge Prado’s less positive day (Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing) finishing 15th and 12th, and the day’s winner, Jonass, for being the most consistent with 44 points scored.
