Michael Dunlop continues to make history at the Isle of Man TT. This Saturday he was the winner of the second Supersport race and the second Supertwin race, thus achieving his 29th victory ever in the famous event.
The Supersport race had two laps and, although leading early on, Dunlop faced strong opposition from Dean Harrison (Honda Racing UK) before pulling away during the second lap. Dunlop (MD Racing/Yamaha) secured the win with a 3.8s lead.
Davey Todd (Powertoolmate Ducati) was in second place at one point, but couldn’t keep up with Dunlop and Harrison during the second lap, settling for the final spot on the podium. The top five was completed by Jamie Coward (KTS Racing Stanley Stewart Racing/Triumph) and Peter Hickman (Trooper Triumph by PHR Performance).
Next up was the Supertwin race, in which Dunlop once again made his dominance very clear. In this category, riding a Paton, he immediately took the lead ahead of Hickman (Swan Racing/Yamaha), and then gradually built a lead.
Although Hickman tried to react, it wasn’t enough to threaten Dunlop – he won with a 6.446s lead, which was the margin he had when the race was red-flagged after one lap. Mike Browne (Scott Racing Motorcycles/Aprilia) came out on top in the battle with Dominic Herbertson (Burrows Engineering by RK Racing/Paton) to take third place. Paul Jordan (Rev2Race/Yamaha) crossed the line in fifth.
