Maverick Viñales is going through a good period in MotoGP with Aprilia, having shown clear growth since joining in the middle of 2021. He already has a victory this year, but still shows some inconsistency like the Noale manufacturer.
Despite the RS-GP being one of the most competitive bikes currently and the strong desire of the team to keep him, the Spanish rider is considering other alternatives in the market. And, according to Manuel Pecino’s article on the Motosan.es website, one of them is Red Bull GasGas Tech3.
According to the Spanish journalist, Viñales will be in contact with KTM about this possibility. Enea Bastianini’s manager, Carlo Pernat, assured this week that the Italian would be with GasGas Tech3 in 2025. For Viñales to also join, both Augusto Fernández and Jack Miller would have to leave the KTM ‘sphere’. It remains to be seen if KTM will be interested in #12, especially in a year where several interesting possibilities can open up in the rider market.
For Viñales, a move to GasGas Tech3 seems to make little sense: for the first time since his MotoGP debut in 2015, he wouldn’t be in a factory team. Furthermore, Aprilia and KTM are not currently on such different levels, and in fact are separated by only two points in the constructors’ championship. Aprilia may only have one podium, but it was the only one between the two to win this year. And the Italian team sees him as a priority, giving him a status he couldn’t have at KTM or GasGas Tech3 – especially with Pedro Acosta present.
