Aprilia has Lorenzo Savadori as its only MotoGP test rider. Unlike other manufacturers, he has little experience competing in the premier class, but his work is still satisfactory. However, with Aleix Espargaró set to retire full-time, could adding someone to these roles be on the table?
Aprilia’s technical director, Romano Albesiano, said that it is not truly necessary to add a second, faster test rider, considering that it could bring risks:
– It’s not easy, because I think Lorenzo is fast enough to give us the information we need. Then, if you are really looking for the last tenth, you enter a range that is so individual. I’m not sure that having a very fast test rider would really help. Maybe yes, but the risk is having a bike designed for that rider and not for the other.
Albesiano added: ‘Maybe you can have a top genius rider who is able to set up the bike that is good for everyone or for a wide range of riders‘.
