Aprilia has Lorenzo Savadori as its sole MotoGP test rider. Unlike other manufacturers, he has little experience competing in the premier class, but his work is still satisfactory. However, with Aleix Espargaró set to retire full-time, the possibility of adding someone to these roles may be on the table?
Aprilia’s technical director, Romano Albesiano, stated that it is not truly necessary to add a second, faster test rider, considering that it could bring risks:
– It’s not easy, because I believe that Lorenzo is fast enough to provide us with the information we need. Then, if you are really looking for the last tenth, you enter a range that is so individual. I’m not sure if having a very fast test rider would really help. Maybe yes, but the risk is having a bike designed for that rider and not for the other.
Albesiano added: ‘Maybe you can have a top genius rider who is capable of setting up the bike that is good for everyone or for a wide range of riders‘.
