The unthinkable had happened at the MotoGP Grand Prix of the Americas in April when Honda left Austin without any points. But the crisis of results and performance of the Japanese constructor continues and met another chapter at the Italian Grand Prix.
In Mugello, the Japanese constructor was always among the last positions and did not score a single point. In both races, their best rider was Johann Zarco (LCR Honda), in 15th in the Sprint and 19th in the main race.
Thus, it was the second time in 2024 that Honda left a Grand Prix with zero points. Gone are the days of dominance, like the 1997 season when they won all the Grand Prix races.
To find the last time Honda did not score points in a Grand Prix, one must go back to 1980. However, in that year they only had one bike, ridden by Takazumi Katayama in five of the 14 rounds held. The Japanese rider never scored points. It is also worth noting that in 1980 the manufacturer was in its second season after an 11-year absence that ended in 1979.
