Francesco Bagnaia was the winner of the Italian MotoGP Grand Prix, thus achieving his second consecutive victory after also finishing at the top of the podium in Barcelona.
This is a sequence of results that the Ducati rider had not achieved since September 2022 – that is, almost two years (21 months) ago. At that time, he completed a sequence of five triumphs at the San Marino Grand Prix.
More recently, Bagnaia won the 2023 Valencia Grand Prix and started this year at the top in the Qatar Grand Prix. However, despite achieving two victories in consecutive rounds, they were obtained in different seasons.
With three victories and a third place in the last four Grand Prix races, the 2022 and 2023 champion seems to have definitively left behind the less positive period he had at the Portugal and Americas Grand Prix races.
And this is already reflected in the championship standings: he is in second place, 18 points behind leader Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati), having gained 21 points on the rival during the Mugello weekend. In addition, he increased his lead over third-placed Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) from 2 to 17 points.
