The Italian MotoGP Grand Prix did not go well for Miguel Oliveira, who only scored two points in Mugello – as a result of finishing 14th in the main race this Sunday. And this had a negative impact on the championship standings.
The Portuguese rider, who started promisingly with a fourth place in Friday afternoon’s practice, qualified in 11th. A problem with the height adjustment device caused him to lose several positions at the start of the Sprint race, eventually retiring shortly after due to an accident with Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha).
On Sunday, Oliveira once again lost several positions at the start. However, he managed to establish a solid pace and began a recovery until he reached 13th… just behind his Trackhouse Racing teammate, Raúl Fernández.
In a position to make a move, #88 tried, but got stuck in fifth gear and not only failed to make the pass, but also dropped to 14th place where he finished – being overtaken by Marc Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46/Ducati). Meanwhile, Fernández finished 12th.
With these results, the Spaniard rose to 12th in the championship with 32 points – the same as Quartararo. Meanwhile, Oliveira dropped to 15th tied with Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac/Ducati) and one point behind Fernández. Before this race, the Portuguese was 13th, one place ahead of his teammate.
