After a few more complicated Grand Prix races, Enea Bastianini savored a second place at home in the Italian MotoGP GP. The Ducati rider overtook Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati) right at the end and finished just behind teammate Francesco Bagnaia.
The Italian who finished second said in a press conference: ‘It was a very difficult race, but I am really happy because it was important for me to achieve a great result as it has been a very difficult period for me. We have not been lucky during this part of the season, but today this result came‘.
Being overtaken by Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) made Bastianini react and, on the last lap, he targeted Martín and risked for a very satisfying result: ‘When Marc overtook me, I closed my eyes a bit and attacked a bit more. I tried to overtake him again. And in the last lap I saw Jorge not very close to me, but he could be my target and in the last corner I tried to do my best. I had much more speed in the middle of the corner. I am really happy for myself, but also for the team because my bike was very good today and I enjoyed it a lot‘.
Asked if he could have fought with Bagnaia for the victory if he had been faster in the first laps, #23 replied: ‘I think Pecco was very fast today. We tried to catch him several times, me and Jorge. He was very close to him, but if you try to attack a bit more, sometimes you make some mistakes and lose time. And we also had a lot of difficulties with the front tire. It was not easy. In the final part of the race, I can usually do something more. I can’t explain this. Probably it was possible, probably not. I don’t know‘.
