Raul Fernandez finished the Mugello GP in 12th place. The Spanish rider moves up to 12th in the championship with 32 points, one more than his teammate, Miguel Oliveira.
In the debrief, the Spanish rider talked about his race and a small setback that limited the Trackhouse Racing rider.
– In the end, we fought with them. I mean, I’m happy with the work we did again this weekend. Ducati is quite strong. We saw that they are one step ahead of all of us. I mean, KTM was also fighting with us more or less, but Ducati seems to be on another level. Today I had problems again. Since the beginning of the year, I have been having problems with my arm and next Tuesday I will have to be operated on again. So, I am satisfied with the work. But in the last seven laps I had to manage the last race and the same thing has been happening since the beginning of the year. I am happy because we found out what the problem was. I am happy with the work we are doing. But, honestly, like this, it is very difficult to test the bike. Today I had many problems. I tried to win the race. I gave my best. I tried to finish the race in a good position. Today I had many problems with my arm. But, anyway, now we have a solution and, for the future, I cannot repeat, because also in Barcelona, when I was with Marc and Aleix, I lost the podium fighting against this problem. I will fly tomorrow and on Tuesday I will be operated on. I didn’t tell you anything before because I wanted to be focused. It is true that before coming here I was at the doctor’s. So, it wasn’t easy for me to focus on the weekend. But I think we did a good job. I am happy and now we have to think about recovery.
He also added about the influence that the bike can have on his physical condition compared to Ducati riders: “I want to say that our bike is a bit more difficult. At Ducati, I don’t think there are many riders being operated on, but that depends on how we prepare or train. It’s simple. We have a lot of muscle and that’s the problem with arm pump. It’s not a major surgery, but I don’t know. It’s part of the game. Now I’ve also seen many Moto2 riders with this type of problems. I think it’s because every year we’re faster, faster, and faster, and it’s very difficult to be at the highest level. We have more races, we now have Sprint races, but this is part of the game. I mean, we have to be prepared for it. I love riding a bike and I want to be at 100%”
