Jorge Martín finished third in the Italian MotoGP Grand Prix. The Prima Pramac rider was in second behind Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) for almost the entire race at Mugello, but was surprised and overtaken by Enea Bastianini (Ducati) at the end of the last lap.
In the interview with the official broadcast, the Spaniard did not hide his frustration with the outcome, after putting in a strong performance and believing that victory was possible:
– I am certainly a bit frustrated with the last lap. We took a big step, I was keeping up with Pecco at this incredible pace and setting a record lap every lap. In the end, I thought I could make the move for the win, I was closing the gap. And then I saw that I was pushing too hard, so I just waited for the last lap.
Despite the frustration with the mistake that cost him second place, Martín emphasized the importance of the podium: ‘I am frustrated with myself because I didn’t close that last line, and then Enea overtook me. But a podium after such a tough weekend is crucial, and now it’s time to rest and we will come back stronger in Assen‘.
