Francesco Bagnaia won the MotoGP Italian GP. It is his second consecutive victory this season and third in the Mugello race, in a weekend where he also won the Sprint race. Ducati, competing in blue with a special decoration for the home round, achieved a one-two finish. Miguel Oliveira finished 14th.
Good start from Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati) who stayed in the lead towards turn one. However, Bagnaia (Ducati) was even stronger and quickly moved up to the lead. Enea Bastianini (Ducati) was in third and Marc Márquez (Gresini/Ducati).
In the early stages of the race, Bagnaia managed to build a small gap in the lead. Marc Márquez and Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3/KTM) engaged in another battle, this time for fourth place and chasing the third-placed Bastianini. In a long 24-lap race, the drivers also had to think about managing the pace and tires. The positions stabilized in the top five, with several laps passing without direct duels or overtaking attempts.
In fourth place, Márquez seemed to have some problem with the rear of the bike, as it released some smoke every time he entered the main straight. However, this was not affecting performance, with the rider maintaining pressure on Bastianini.
At the beginning of lap 18, Márquez launched the attack on Bastianini towards turn one and completed the overtaking. Now, he had Martín more than a second ahead of him.
During much of the race, Bagnaia had the lead under control and achieved a clear victory at Mugello. Martín not only failed to keep up, but also lost second place right at the end.
On the penultimate lap, Bastianini recovered third place from Márquez and then went on the attack against Martín to even reach second place and offer a double to the Ducati factory team.
Therefore, Martín closed the podium in third, with Márquez in fourth and Acosta in fifth. The sixth-place finisher was Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac/Ducati).
As for Oliveira, after being in contention for 12th place, he did not have the means to go beyond the 14th position, only adding two points in Italy.
