This Saturday, June 1st, goes down in the history of the Isle of Man TT. Michael Dunlop achieved his 26th victory by being the strongest in the first Supersport race, equaling the record held by his uncle Joey Dunlop.
The MD Racing/Yamaha rider was third on the first lap, but took the lead on the following lap and then pulled away from his competitors. In the end, he beat Davey Todd (Powertoolmate Ducati) by 8.5s. This is Michael Dunlop’s 12th victory in the Supersport category, and 26th overall, in addition to the 40th podium that allowed him to equal another record of his uncle Joey.
With the second place, Todd secured his best result on the Isle of Man, as well as setting the fastest ever lap for a Ducati on the circuit. Dean Harrison (Honda Racing) led in the early stages, but finished third to complete the podium. James Hillier (Bournemouth Kawasaki) and James Hind (North Lincs Components/Suzuki) also finished in the top five.
The Isle of Man TT 2024 is not over yet, with another week of races still to come. Therefore, Michael Dunlop could end up, on June 8th, as the sole record holder for victories in the event.
