David Alonso’s dominance continues in Mugello. This afternoon, the Moto3 World Championship leader secured pole position for the Italian GP, leading all sessions up to now.
After the first flying laps, Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) led the qualifying ahead of Ivan Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM), with Alonso (CFMoto Valresa Aspar) in third.
The table remained in this order in the subsequent minutes, as several riders made the usual pit stop after the first sequences of laps. José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was in fourth.
Three minutes before the checkered flag, Ortolá took the lead, while Alonso settled for second. Thus, in a few moments, Veijer dropped to third place. But there was still time until the end and everything could change.
With his last lap, Alonso clocked a time of 1m54.194s to secure pole position, beating Ortolá by 0.247s. Rueda will start from third, having surpassed Veijer in the end. Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) and Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda) will share the second row of the starting grid with the Dutchman.
