Alessandro Zaccone with record lap and pole position in MotoE at Mugello

Alessandro Zaccone achieved pole position for the MotoE Italian GP this afternoon. Qualifying was threatened by rain, which had some impact in Q1, but was mostly held on a dry track. During Q1, only two riders led: Lukas Tulovic (Dynavolt Intact GP), who was the first to set a flying lap; and Andrea Mantovani (Klint Forward), who shortly after surpassed the German with the best time of the session. Mantovani then suffered a highside, being caught out by the wet track in turn six. Rain had arrived at Mugello, although not intensely. However, it was enough for all riders to only have one attempt to set good times in the first qualifying session. In third place was Miquel Pons (Axxis-MSi), who missed out on qualifying positions by 0.144s. Among the other riders who were eliminated are Jordi Torres (Openbank Aspar) and Óscar Gutiérrez (Axxis-MSi), who will start from 14th and 15th, respectively.

The rain didn’t stay long in Mugello, and Q2 took place in dry conditions. Tulovic was the first to set a timed lap, but was later beaten by Mattia Casadei (LCR E-Team). The Italian was in the lead for about half a minute until Zaccone did better.

The man from Tech3 E-Racing, who had already been the fastest in the second practice, raised the bar even higher to 1m55.466s and secured pole position with a record lap. Tulovic finished second, 0.312s behind, followed by Héctor Garzó (Dynavolt Intact GP).

The championship leader, Kevin Zannoni (Openbank Aspar), will start from sixth. After a highside in Q1, Mantovani couldn’t participate in Q2 due to the condition of his bike. However, the rider didn’t suffer any major injuries.
