David Alonso reinforced his dominance in practice 1 of the Italian Moto3 GP. The rider had led the free practice with more than a second advantage and now set a new lap record at Mugello.
In the first nine minutes, the changes in the lead were constant, with nine different riders taking the top spot for some time… until Alonso (CFMoto Valresa Aspar) set a lap that kept him at the top for about five minutes.
Then, the Colombian was overtaken by Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda), before reclaiming the lead about ten minutes later. However, Alonso was quickly surpassed by José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo), before Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) took the top spot on the table.
However, in the last five minutes, Alonso set a series of two fast laps that led him to a new record: 1m54.671s. Veijer finished second, 0.536s behind. Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) once again performed well with the third fastest time, followed by Rueda and Lunetta who completed the top five.
