Joan Mir is in his final year of contract with Repsol Honda in MotoGP, with the future still uncertain. The options in other teams are not many, and staying with the Japanese manufacturer could represent the serious risk of having another uncompetitive season.
A third way could be withdrawing from MotoGP. Although it seems unlikely considering he is only 26 years old and in his ninth season in the World Championships (sixth in MotoGP), the scenario may indeed be on the table.
This Friday, the official broadcast narrator on the championship’s website, Matt Birt, stated: ‘At the moment there is still a lot of talk about Joan Mir potentially seriously considering simply throwing in the towel and retiring to spend time with his family‘.
Coming from the official MotoGP narrator, the source of these rumors is reliable. And, in fact, Mir himself revealed last August that he had considered ending his career in 2023, considering the difficulties in the first year with Honda. The scenario has not improved at all in the current season, despite development concessions and the manufacturer’s efforts to turn things around.
