The start of the Italian MotoGP Grand Prix was not particularly encouraging for Miguel Oliveira. The Trackhouse Racing rider only managed to reach 17th place in the first free practice session, although it is necessary to emphasize that the goal of this session is to prepare for the weekend and not to attack the stopwatch.
At the beginning of the session, the Portuguese rider was in the top five, a position he lost by not improving on his second attempt. When he improved on the third flying lap, he rose to sixth, but then went to the pits and gradually lost positions until he was in 13th place.
When he returned to the pits, Oliveira was already in 16th place, rising to 14th when he improved… only to go back to the garage for the second time right after. About half of the session had passed.
In the last 18 minutes, #88 embarked on a new sequence of laps when he was in 15th place. Once again, he used the tires from the previous exits: a soft tire in the front and a medium one in the back. After five flying laps, he returned to the pits in the same position he was in: 15th.
In the final minutes, Oliveira did two more flying laps, but even though he improved his time, he could not go beyond the final 17th place. He finished 1.151s behind the leader, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3/KTM).
