David Alonso threatens to be the main protagonist again at the Italian Moto3 GP. This morning, the championship leader led the free practice in Mugello with a new lap record and over a second advantage.
After most of the riders completed their respective first flying laps, José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) was leading. Alonso (CFMoto Valresa Aspar), who had been the first to set a time, surpassed the Spaniard, but Rueda responded to regain the lead.
However, with just over eight minutes gone, Alonso definitively took the lead. The Colombian set a series of fast laps, consistently improving the reference time. However, it was only on his last lap that he set the prevailing time: 1m55.818s.
It’s a new record in Mugello, which left Alonso isolated at the top of the practice session. Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) was second by 1.068s, while Rueda finished third by 1.232s. Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) and Stefano Nepa (LevelUp-MTA/KTM) completed the top five.
Times:
For the 19th time in 21 sessions, David Alonso leads! 👊
