After finishing tenth in the Catalunya GP, Miguel Oliveira arrives at the Italian MotoGP GP. It is the home round for Aprilia, the manufacturer to which he is linked by being part of the Trackhouse Racing satellite team.
The Portuguese talked about his approach to the Mugello round, where he expects to have an easier time than in Barcelona due to the level of grip: ‘I come here with an open mind, to be honest. I don’t have any major references from last year because I had just returned from a shoulder injury. So, I was just riding to get some time on the bike and not being 100 percent fit. But let’s see. I am optimistic. It is true that we have much more grip than in Barcelona and that should help, but it should also help everyone else. So, let’s see if we can manage that. And I am just looking forward to starting the weekend and see what the weather does as well, as it seems a bit unstable‘.
Asked if he hopes it will rain, Oliveira said it doesn’t matter to him: ‘It doesn’t matter to me, to be honest, at this moment. If it rains a bit, it may not be so bad, but let’s see‘.
Regarding how it is to ride with wet track at the fast Mugello circuit, the Portuguese commented: ‘I don’t have any major memories of riding here in the rain, probably with the wet weather tire. But it’s okay, it’s a normal track, it’s good. Changing direction is obviously always complicated. But it’s not that bad‘.
