Monster Energy Yamaha seems to be making some progress in MotoGP, but still unable to fight for the top positions – which are still far away. Fabio Quartararo believes there are two characteristics that, if returned to past levels, will allow for progress.
The 2021 champion mentioned that the YZR-M1 gained in power, but lost in two aspects that were advantageous: ‘The engine is fast, I never complained about the power this year. But we used to have agility and a lot of turning with the bike, not top speed. So now we have top speed, but we don’t have the agility and turning from the past. Therefore, the number one goal is to regain this agility and turning that we used to have. That’s why I think the Mugello test was great, because we tested several bikes and we know we have to work a lot on the engine‘.
– I think the turning we used to have, Ducati has improved compared to us – I believe Ducati’s turning now is even better than what we used to have in the past. We tried to be as close as possible this year, but if we find the agility and turning we had in the past and the power we have now, we can already fight for much more in the top six/seven.
