The Catalunya Moto2 GP was the first race in which Jake Dixon scored points in the 2024 season. And he did so convincingly, with a third place finish after a very difficult start – having to overcome serious injuries even before the first round.
In an interview with ITV Sport, the British rider from CFMoto Aspar recalled the tough journey he faced, and revealed that before the Barcelona race he had another problem:
– Honestly, with what happened this season, I came back from the beginning of the year to get injured in a very big accident with a lung contusion. And everything just seemed to go against us. We’re on a new suspension. There were so many different things that went against us, and it seemed like the tide needed to turn at some point. I didn’t score a point until this race, with crashes and a lot of bad luck. And before the start of the weekend, I didn’t tell anyone, I had a problem with my ankle where I twisted my ankle and tore the ligament in my ankle. So, it was another thing that just added to what was already a struggle this year.
Going through a tough period with the support of his wife, Sarah, Dixon delivered a strong message from his situation, warning about the importance of taking care of mental health: ‘But I told Sarah, Sarah and I always said, “the tide has to turn soon.” And this is for everyone out there, everyone who is in a struggle. Mentally, I’ve been in such a dark place all season, and mental health is such a big issue, and everyone should seek help if they need it and talk to someone. Because, for me, I was really struggling. Thankfully I have my wife, I have my therapist, and we were able to get through these tough times. Nothing lasts forever and, no matter what you put in your head, you can always come out the other side. I just proved that‘.
