Enea Bastianini was penalized by 32 seconds after the MotoGP Catalan Grand Prix race, as he did not comply with one of the Long Lap penalties he received nor the ride through for not complying with the warning in question.
The Long Lap was imposed on the Ducati rider for going off track at the first chicane in order to avoid contact with Álex Márquez (Gresini/Ducati), not giving back the time gained unfairly.
The Spanish rider told Sky Sport MotoGP: ‘I don’t really know what happened, he wasn’t even able to do a Long Lap. I think that says it all. I overtook at turn one, but there was no contact and honestly I don’t know what he’s complaining about‘.
According to Márquez, neither of the two riders made a mistake in the maneuver itself, although he emphasizes that, by going off track where he did, Bastianini would have to give back the gained time immediately:
– He went wide, but he knows that if you go wide in turn two, you have to lose a second by turn three. If you can’t lose that second, then you have to do the Long Lap. That’s how it is. I don’t think I did anything wrong and neither did he, but he wasn’t able to lose that second…
