Marc Márquez’s impressive recoveries are starting to become commonplace. This Sunday, he started from 14th in the main race of the Catalunya MotoGP Grand Prix and finished third, after having done something similar in yesterday’s Sprint race and in both races of the French GP two weeks ago.
The Gresini rider admitted that it is not something he is proud of, with the starting position also affecting the strategy: ‘I’m not proud of this, especially because if you make these recoveries, it means it comes from some mistake. Furthermore, starting from 14th forced me, or I feel like it forced me, to use the soft rear tire‘.
Márquez then said: ‘I don’t know if it was better or worse, but in the end I had that extra grip in the first laps to overtake the riders. The end was difficult, but still I caught the Aprilia riders [Aleix Espargaró and Raúl Fernández] who were there with the medium and I had something more‘.
For the eight-time world champion, this is a satisfying podium, after the difficulties faced in Barcelona: ‘I’m happy to be in third at a circuit where historically I’ve always had a lot of difficulties throughout the weekend. But this extra work with the team gave us this incredible podium‘.
