Marc Márquez returned to the podium at the Catalunya MotoGP, finishing third. The Gresini rider started from 14th, but managed to recover to third with a pass near the end on Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia).
In a quick interview with the official broadcast, the eight-time world champion began by explaining his choice of the soft tire: ‘I chose the soft one, I knew it was risky, but it was the only solution to attack from the beginning – because usually if you start with the medium, you get stuck behind the others at the start and then it’s not possible to overtake. So, that 14th place forced me to mount the soft one‘.
Next, Márquez commented: ‘Unfortunately today I had a bad start, I didn’t make a good start, and then step by step I knew the race was long, I didn’t overload the tires, and when I passed Aleix, I tried to attack but the tire was already finished. But I was able to defend the position. I am quite happy‘.
Finally, #93 mentioned: ‘I feel sorry for Aleix, because this was his last race at the Catalunya Circuit. But I am happy that, on a difficult circuit, we are here with the front riders again‘.
