During the Sprint race of the Catalunya MotoGP Grand Prix, Franco Morbidelli (Pramac/Ducati) was penalized with a Long Lap – all due to an attempt to overtake Álex Márquez (Gresini/Ducati), in which he forced the rival to run wide and off track.
The Spanish rider was brief in explaining the incident: ‘He just went straight into turn four, touched me and I went into the gravel, so, it’s nothing else’.
That said, Márquez is surprised by the different judgments of the stewards regarding Morbidelli’s maneuver, which in his opinion was similar to those that went unpunished at the French GP two weeks ago:
– Here he received the Long Lap penalty, not in Le Mans. So, it’s very strange because he did exactly the same thing in Le Mans to me, to Aleix [Espargaró], to [Fabio] DiGia and to [Johann] Zarco. So, it’s a different way for the stewards to understand things, but in the end, with or without the Long Lap, it doesn’t change anything for me.
