Brad Binder was in the fight for the top positions in the MotoGP Catalan GP Sprint race. However, when leading, he couldn’t avoid a crash and subsequent retirement.
The Red Bull KTM rider qualified in fourth in Barcelona, a result that left him pleased as he said at the end of the Saturday: ‘The qualifying was very good, I am quite happy to have qualified in fourth. It’s always good to be up there at the start‘.
As for the Sprint race, despite a small setback, Binder was pleased with the performance shown: ‘The start was good. Unfortunately, I hit the limiter in first gear and couldn’t get the bike into second. It was a good start, although I had that little hiccup. Other than that, everything was good. I had a very good feeling in the race, everything was working very well, the bike is working incredibly well here‘.
However, the crash ultimately prevented the South African from achieving a good result: ‘Unfortunately, in turn five I simply lost the front without any warning – maybe I was a bit more upright than on the previous lap. Unfortunately, my race was over. It is what it is, it’s never good to crash in the first place, but it’s better to crash in the first place than to ride in 15th like last week‘, he said.
Asked what kind of riding he was doing at the time of the crash, Binder explained: ‘I was trying to ride clean and probably shouldn’t have done that, because it seems like I was leaning much less than I normally do and, of course, that puts the weight in a slightly different place and I simply lost the front‘.
