The first day of the Catalunya GP, on Friday, was marked by some crashes, and this may have been contributed by the poor grip of the Barcelona circuit asphalt.
This is a challenge from various points of view – not only does it place certain demands from the perspective of riding and tire management, but it also greatly reduces the margin of error.
Francesco Bagnaia, Ducati rider, believes that changes need to be made urgently. The 2022 and 2023 champion even hopes that by 2025, a new asphalt will be found in Barcelona:
– We saw several crashes and it was only the first day. So, for me, the level of grip is very low. We have been in this situation for years, and I really hope they repave it for next year. Because for me, it’s like being on a flat track: turns 3 and 4 are like being on a flat track – you control the sliding as if you were on dirt.
